We are Island Food Security Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and farmer-led network rooted in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Our story began with the simple truth that the islands are capable of feeding themselves—but only if we intentionally build, protect, and restore the systems that make local food accessible, valued, and resilient. After decades of storms, supply interruptions, and food system fragility, we realized that resilience must be designed, not hoped for.

At our core, we are producers, land stewards, educators, advocates, and community builders. Through our key partnerships with Sejah Farm of the Virgin Islands LLC and other local growers across St. Croix, St. Thomas, and St. John, we work to strengthen the full food ecosystem—from soil health and sustainable agricultural practices, to post-harvest handling, distribution, and market access. We support farmers with technical assistance, infrastructure guidance, collaborative programming, and pathways to scale their operations without losing their cultural and ecological identity.

Food security for us is personal. It is cultural. It is generational. We believe the food system is the backbone of our community and our greatest protection against uncertainty. Our work focuses on conserving land, protecting crops, supporting livestock systems, educating our youth through agricultural and nutrition programs, and rebuilding trust in local food consumption. Our mission is guided by shared passion, inclusive leadership, and the belief that local food sovereignty is a human right and the foundation of community wellness.

We do not work apart from our community—we work with it, and from within it. Our farmers markets, educational initiatives, health fairs, cultural fire-cooking events, and agricultural partnerships reflect our belief that food must be understood, celebrated, and shared in order to be protected. Every seed planted, every partnership built, and every young person introduced to the land is part of the future we are shaping together.
